70qt coleman extreme dead space

i haven’t brewed in a couple months and getting back to it today. i’m still roughing in my set up. my previous notes have my dead space at .50 gallon. after today i think i might be off. what are you guys calculating for dead space in this cooler?

thanks. feels damn fine to brew again on a beautiful los angeles afternoon.

cheers?

Add water till it starts running out. Measure undrained water.

I don’t think it’s more than a cup if you tilt the far end up a couple inches. It does depend on your level of patience though as it will keep trickling out for a while after I call it done.

I assume it depends on how you’ve got your cooler plumbed.  I use the simple SS braid (ala Cheap n’ Easy) and my Extreme leaves less than a quart behind. So I can’t speak for the guys that use a slotted pipe manifold system or otherwise. I should mention that I prop up the end of the cooler with a piece of 2 X 4 to get max drainage.

i’ve got the braid as well and also tip the cooler to one end. i guess the grain is absorbing more water than i thought.  thanks fellas.
