A Weird Kind of Anniversary

A year ago, give or take an hour, a surgeon told me that with a C1/C5/C6 fracture, I had a 90% chance of paralysis. Today I ran 5k, played 18 holes, came home, started some charcoal, and poured a homebrew.

So I got that going for me, which is nice.

… I may have followed up that homebrew with a martini.

That’s awesome Sean!  So glad you’re still with us, you have so much knowledge to share/spread. Treasure every minute and let the Dr’s know just how far off their predictions were

Don’t worry, I’ll send them a little three-figure reminder every month, for three years. ::slight_smile:

And as long as I’m bragging:

That’s great to hear bud! Sucks I missed the conference this year. I’m planning on going next year for sure.

That’s great, a scare like that can really make you appreciate things. Sorry you had to run 5k and golf though.

bwaha! 8)

That’s great to hear Sean. It’s pretty wonderful when the Dr is wrong in your favor ! Good luck.

There’s more old drunks than there are old doctors…

Way to go, buddy!

Since I see you at the NHCs once a year, I would have never guessed you had been injured.

Glad to hear you are doing well!

Good for you, glad everything is working out for you.

I have a standing policy of doing things I’m bad at, and those are both near the top of the list. 8)

I’m thinking you had a laminectomy or cervical fusion of some sort with that type of injury. Glad to know you’re OK!!!

Whiplash or did you land on your head?

My brother broke his back (thoracolumbar region) with crushed vertebrae but you’d never know it. Golf, skiing, mountain-biking… and more.

Beat me to it, Euge.  As someone who works in medical imaging (like you?) I was picturing it from that standpoint.

I was thrown from a raft and hit a submerged rock (or tree or something). No surgery; I thought the risk of injury/death during recovery was preferable to a full cervical fusion and never being able to rotate my neck again. So I did three months in a cervical collar/halo instead.

First, I can’t say I blame you on the fusion, Sean. It obviously looks like you made the right decision. But that’s a scary sounding accident and injury. Awesome you bounced back as well as you have.

Smart man. There.

Great to hear Sean!

Mrs. R and I have done a few river trips back in the day, well way back. Which river got you? Any Rapids to avoid?
