so i just got a new aluminum brew pot. The instructions that came with it say “wash with cold water and mild soap, dry with a cloth. Then begin to season your pot. To season it, put a thin layer of cooking oil in bottom. Heat until it becomes quite hot but not hot enough for steam to come from pot. Then cool it down. Once cool, heat it up again to the same condition. Then cool it down. Now your pot is seasoned” I have not gotten to this point yet. I washed it with cold water and soap and there is still black/blue coming off on the cloth when I dry it. Anyone else have this issue?
Simply boil some water in ti, then do not wash off the dark layer of oxide it forms. That’s all you need to do. Never scrub it with anything harsh. You want that layer to remain on there.
ok, will do. thanks.
do i need to fill it to the top? with the lid on or off?
They say put a few inches of water in, bring to a boil, put the lid on and let boil for a while. Never done it myself.
I think I filled mine about 1/2 way.
thank you
dont use oxi clean either just a little bar keepers friend with a soft scrubbie.
I wouldn’t even go that far. BKF will likely scrub off the oxide layer that you want to keep. I use warm water, dish soap and a sponge.
I will try that from now on
