No problem.  Shouldn’t it be Thrifty Thursday anyways, after Tightwad Tuesday and Wacky Wednesday

Nice price. I’d buy one if I needed another pot. I find Amazon to be extremely competitive on many items.

I have the 44qt one that I used when I used to do 5 gallon batches.  Now I just use some 6 or 6 1/2 gallon pot my stepdad gave me that he used with his turkey fryer for 3 gallon batches.  That 24qt pot is calling me though, the Bayou kettles are really nice.

My buddy recently bought a Bayou Classic pot…
After brewing in it a couple times, it developed a pinhole leak, at the vertical seam.
He complained & they sent him another…
Second pot had a leak, too.
He complained & they sent him another…
Yep…You guessed it…Third pot has imperfections where it appears it will develop leaks.
Luckily, they sent him a fourth that doesn’t leak.

Beware the bayou kettle gremlins.

Sounds like Monty Python.

“The third castle burnt down, fell over and sank into the swamp.  But the fourth castle is still standing today!”

I’ve had no issues with my Bayou Classic kettle.  It’s also much sturdier than some of the other older kettles I have kicking around.

it seems to me like this is a lawsuit waiting to happen! So I have my 36 qt pot filled with boiling oil on a 50k BTU propane burner and it springs a leak? yowza!

EDIT you know you hear that phrase ‘boiling oil’ a lot but does oil really boil? i.e. undergo a phase transition from liquid to gaseous? or is that really water boiling out of the oil? I know it must boil at some point but is that at 400*? 500*? 1000*? just curious

When I first bought mine I heard/saw reviews that it would leak at the rivets in the handles.  It’s not the bottom or anything.  I never had a problem with it.

I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten it hot enough to boil - it starts to smoke at some point (depending on the oil) but that’s got to be before boiling.

yeah I used to work at a certain fast food giant with a clown as mascot. One night I was cleaning out the fryer and forgot to turn off the heating element. well that was exciting! no boil but a flame about 4 feet high. Putting teenagers and very hot oil in the same space with little supervision has always seems like such a bad idea to me ;D

Lawsuits aside, if he can find a good welder he has the makings of small, multi-tier systems for the cost of a fryer.  Not too bad a deal.  ;D
