Amount of yeast for a 1 gallon Porter batch

Hello everybody,

I have a question concerning the amount of yeast for a 1 gallon batch of Porter. I bought an all grain kit and and I brewed the batch last night. The kit came with 6 grams of dry yeast. That seemed to me to be maybe too much for 1 gallon. Did some online reading concerning the amount I should use and settled on about 2.5 grams. I did email the master brewer that created the kit, and received a response of use all 6 grams. “Better to have too much, than too little” was the answer. So here is the question, assuming that I did need to use all 6 grams, can I add the remaining yeast to the already fermenting batch. About 24 hours will have passed since I pitched the 2.5 grams. This morning fermentation did start and strong to the point that I had Krausen in my airlock .(I know blow by tube…… next time)

Thanks for taking the time

It’s not so much that you needed it all as it is there’s no reason not to. Go ahead and add the rest now. Won’t hurt, even though it may not help much.
