Apparently, Hawaii just got its first record of a snowy owl, showed up at the airport in the capital.
What a problem bird, couldn’t catch it, it wouldn’t leave, so they blasted it. Yep, shot it dead. :
If arctic owls can get to Hawaii, they could get to your house. Be on the look out if you like this sort of thing. 8)
I think it looks cool sweeping silently over a field and dropping like tens kind of death on a poor field mouse.
reminds me of a book I had when I was a kid. A true story about a wildlife activist in Vermont who found a ‘dead’ owl near his house and took it home to bring to the local game warden. Well it wasn’t on his mantle but it wasn’t dead either! imagine waking up to a recently thawed out and very upset great horned in your living room! now that would be cool! asuming you don’t have small pets.
Owls are okay, but I really want one if those California Condors hanging from the ceiling right above my mounted elephant head. Now that would be COOL.
Personally I think owls are really cool, and there’s not much spookier than seeing silent death swoop down over a field at dusk. That said, here in OK, I’ve got several friends of Native American Indian origin who are seriously freaked out by them; there’s some real significance in folklore and tradition.
