Heading to Germany and UK at the end of August and early July. In Germany I will attend Annafest in Forchheim. This is their annual Kellerbier celebration. Then its off to Birmingham, England for the Great British Beer Festival.
Wow that sounds like a great trip
Full report please, when you get back.
(If you get back).
I’ve been to the Kellerwald but not to Annafest, my wife says the videos look too crowded for her. Many of the Kellers are only open during the Fest. Beer is served in a 1 liter Maß, if you have two or more people form a strategy to share samples.
Forchheim is a pretty town worthy of some time.
Yes, Forchheim is am interesting town. Have visited before, but this will be my first Annafest. I practice drinking a couple of Maß here at home, so I’m ready.
I group of friends brought smaller mugs and would split a Maß so that they could sample more beers from different breweries.
A guy I know who has been several times has said the beer isn’t always the best. Often it has Diacetyl and/or acetaldehyde. The beers are brewed for the fest and are often young. Please report back on your experience.
Thanks for the info regarding off-flavors. If I have to choose, I would rather have 2 or 3 great, classic kellerbiers than try to sample a half dozen.
This is the way.
Hi all Kellarbier is young beer…so some off flavors occur for certain. I am hoping to attend this year as well, as been on my list for some time.
