Another eventful shopping spree

Here in Chicago’s south loop for the week. Stopped in at a Binny’s Beverage shop. Found some treats I can’t get at home! Party on! At least tomorrow after everything cools down tonight

I’m loving FW in cans!

That is awesome. Can’t wait to get to SoCal so I can enjoy some Firestone cans on the beach.

Samiclaus! my girlfriend’s birthday is December 6 and we try to get a six every year and this past year we didn’t find it!

The store had 1 four pack of Samichlaus, and I was happy to relieve them of it.  Never had, looking forward to all of them

that’s right its a four pack. interesting stuff. the story of it is cool. hope you like!

They had several other FW beers I wanted to try out but had to keep the bill reasonable. tomorrow is payday, so maybe another stop… to be continued

If you haven’t had the DBA then be sure to grab that and compare it to your Special Bitter.  I think it’s outstanding.  The Easy Jack will give you a good feel for some of the new German hops (Mandarina & Huell Melon) that are generating a lot of buzz in this forum.  And welcome to Chicago!

Edit:  You probably shouldn’t leave town without something from Half Acre and Revolution.  Just sayin’.

I can occasionally  get revolution at home but will look for half acre. I passed on the dba, just because I did not know the name. I will go back for it and the half acre

Easy jack and Wookey Jack were also there, but I had both of those in LA last summer. Enjoyed both of them but went for untried brews. Thanks for the other ideas, will look for them
Edit for late night, beer laden typos

Nice haul, Frank. I’d love to see the Firestone make its way here. And the Surly.

Nice selection!!

FYI for all interested in Samichlaus, Sami has 3 varians Classic, Helles, and Schwarzbier (new). The Classic should be available year round. The Helles and Schwarz will be seasonal and rotate with each other every six months.

DBA is an outstanding beer.  I had a few pints with the owner of the Hopleaf in Andersonville (great bar to check out if you can get up to the North Side) and he was recommending it as one of his favorites at the time.

I haven’t had a Samichlaus in years.  But I did see it on the shelves in the Wrigleyville Binny’s recently.  Thought about it.

Is FW releasing all of their beers in cans? I saw Pivo and Easy Jack yesterday. Would love to get my hands on some Pale 31 in cans.

They had easy jack and 31 in bottles at the store, not sure if that is the only way they package or not. The Wookey was in 4 pack bottles and they had some bombers of union jack

I think the goal is to release all of the core beers in cans but I haven’t seen 31 in cans yet.

The Helles version is quite nice.
Just had FW Double Jack yesterday afternoon after a marathon cleaning session.  Damn, that’s good drinkin.

Another local to look out for is Temperance. I really like their Gatecrasher IPA, which is English style. Their Restless Years Rye pale ale is nice, too. Lukewarm on their ESB.

There’s a very new Whole Foods on East Illinois that has a pretty big make your own six pack section, though I couldn’t tell you specifics.

It’s awful hard to beat Samichlaus with a rich hearty meal!
