I am looking at moving soon, and with that I will have a lot more room to brew. This leads me to thinking about building a brewing sculpture. I have kind of an odd thought though, I’m trying to make as eco-friendly a brewstand as possible.
To that end, I would like to use batteries to power my pumps (DC of course), grain mill (Drill motor, so also DC), etc. I would like to have a small solar panel and wind generator to recharge the batteries. I would really only need to run the pumps for transferring wort. The grain mill wouldn’t run long either. I am thinking about using a couple of car batteries.
marine batteries last longer. And I would contact some solar companies. it might make more sense to wire the whole house for solar and just build an electric brew rig.
I would think carefully about making sure that your sure electrical is protected from splashed water/wort and maintaining access for brewing so you don’t move a pot and knock over a solar panel.
Calculating the electrical loads from pumping should not be very hard. I’m not sure what resources are available for calculating the electrical loads from milling. Perhaps you already have wattage measurements from milling already.
you kid Jim but that’s on my to do list. a peddle powered pump and possibly grain mill. More a peddle power house that can be moved from device to device. why not get a workout while I brew?
Where he lives, biking is the way of life. The only time I ever ride a bike is when I’m in Davis. I’m not too into leisure rides and dallas isn’t setup for biking to get places.
