What would be your best recommendation for Homebrewing Beer KIT, complete with racking cane, rubber stopper, transfer tubing, tubing clamp, airlock, thermometer, glass carboy, funnel, brew bag?
Also: what would be the best and cheapest YEAST to buy in bulk?
I haven’t looked at starter kits for quite awhile.
I wouldn’t get a glass carboy these days. If you need a secondary I’d get a Better Bottle or a Big Mouth Bubbler. You rarely have to use a secondary for most beers and glass can be scary dangerous. Lots of horror stories out there about them breaking and emergency room visits.
Like Steve said, it’s difficult to make yeast recommendations without knowing what you plan to brew.
I suggest talking to your local Homebrew shop, if you have one. If you are relying on online merchants, any of the big ones will have starter sets. The trouble is, you may want to upgrade fairly quickly because of the great options available to homebrewers these days.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your brewing. You found a great spot for information in this forum!
+1 for going to your local homebrew store first. If that fails then morebeer.com has what looks like a pretty descent starter kit for $69.99.
I would suggest forgetting about using a secondary vessel for a while. It is also a good idea to stick with basic recipe/styles to begin with. And of all the things I have ever bought in bulk, yeast is not one of them. The shelf life is just too short, especially for liquid yeast. If you really want to have a supply ready then I would suggest US-05 dry yeast. It is a good, all around yeast that ferments clean and won’t get in the way of your malt profile.
Just wanted to point out that the recipe sounds more like the old “fruit wine” recipes that people made in the 60s. You may want to use a wine yeast since there is no malt in your recipe.
I have two 20L/5.3G, they are made out of HDPE, and they’re great.
Spigot assembled sideways to avoid trub, use 3/8 ID food grade silicone tubing with spring loaded bottle filler.
Spigot is taken completely apart to clean. Turning spigot handle back and forth while pulling removes it.
Fermented on angle to guide trub to the back.
