I am closing in on retiring from the Air Force and not looking to jump into a job right off the bat so I am thinking of doing a cross country trip of some sort that is most likely going to be on a bike. Has anyone on here done something like this and if so, was it worth it?
Bicycle or motorcycle? I’ve done some awesome week long motorcycle trips. Never cross country, though.
thought that said bikin across america 8)
Not yet! But bicycling across the US of A is high on my list. Feel free to contact me for housing and free beer!
Hmmm.
Retiring? Damn I hope it’s a bicycle.
I was on the cycling team in college. I knew a lot of people who did crazy bicycle trips (across the US, across Mexico, from Alaska to San Diego, Vancouver to San Diego). I don’t think any of them regretted their decisions, at least not after they finished. They probably regretted it a fair amount while they were doing it.
I cannot recall ever seeing the face of a bicyclist in the midst of wyoming
say between riverton or lander and jeffrey city that remotely resembled
pleasure…just sayin… ???
IIRC, no matter which direction you’re riding in Wyoming, the wind is in your face ;D
I’ve always thought a cross-country tour would be cool. I think the trick is to have enough time to make it leisurely, so you have time to stop for a few days whenever you want.
Assuming you can pedal 100+ miles a day you’ll still be doing some camping out west. Whole lot of nuthin with little in-between.
Definitely visit Yellowstone, avoid the rest of Wyoming.
Anyone want to take a guess at which state of the union has the least population?
