Wow, Denny, I read the blog link and it has been so long now that I forgot it was Mark C. who initially advocated the method. I miss that dude on here - he really knows his stuff.
I use mine for preparing isinglass finings from freeze-dried. It’s essential. Don’t try to tell me to use gelatin. There’s no comparison, and I can justify still owning a stir plate.
(I would also use it for the first step from bottle dregs, a slant or a plate. If I still ever did such a thing. : )
