Bring your starter to work today

Haven’t gotten around to ordering a stir plate yet so it’s bring your starter to work day.

I believe that requires a child seat at that size sir.

Check into the vitality starter using the “Shaken, not Stirred” approach.  I have not used my stir plate since going that route.

Thanks Man. Will have to look into it.

same here…mine has a thick layer of dust on it!

Here’s some additional info on it…Old Dog…New Tricks | Experimental Brewing

Wow, Denny, I read the blog link and it has been so long now that I forgot it was Mark C. who initially advocated the method.  I miss that dude on here - he really knows his stuff.

Yeah.  Wonder how he’s doing?  Kept in touch for a while after he left here, but he kinda faded away

I wonder if a starter counts as beer in the context of “open container” laws?  Not that you’d be likely to be drinking it - but just curious.

What’s a “stir plate”?  Seriously, my homebrewery would not know.  ;D

It’s a thing you use to stir agar in to hot wort for making slants and plates

I use mine for preparing isinglass finings from freeze-dried. It’s essential.  Don’t try to tell me to use gelatin.  There’s no comparison, and I can justify still owning a stir plate.

(I would also use it for the first step from bottle dregs, a slant or a plate.  If I still ever did such a thing.  ::slight_smile: )
