Yes and yes. These are best by dated from 2012. My local shop has 5 more.
I’ll be looking for it. Compare to anything, or its own thing? Still haven’t done the massive Belgian stock up yet, gonna add it to the long list.
Honestly Jon, it’s difficult to tell because of the age. I’ve had younger versions of it and it has some of the same hallmarks as Het Anker’s Grand Cru, but it didn’t have that trademark monastic style profile.
This example has had much, if not all, of the hop flavor fade completely away. The foam, however, was not affected:
It has developed a smooth alcohol flavor, and even the malt flavor is subdued a bit.
I’m of the opinion that these are the types of beers that really develop interesting flavors with age.
