Christmas Lights

Just wondering what you have going on in your neck of the woods.

Cheers.

Wadda you think?
  • I love them, and plan the display every year.
  • I love them, and they are still up from last year.
  • I like them, and the neighbor handles that.
  • I like them, but they never work so why bother?
  • What, no time for that, plus they are expensive!
  • Hell no, that is gaudy.
  • Hell no, but the neighbors like them.
  • 'lectric lights? nah, but I like luminiarias.
  • You mean holiday lights?
  • Umm, hanging lights is dangerous without pants on.

I put them up for the children in our family. The little ones really get a kick out of them. Otherwise ,I could take them or leave them. Plus we have a little competition on our street. Lights up at just about every house on the street.

whichever reply is closest to “hate them, wife loves them, wife thinks “WE” should put some up, and waits around for the other half of “WE” to do it.”

yeah, that one.

I’m big time into Christmas. I don’t go crazy, just a couple strings of lights, but I love them and would hang lights and put up a tree whether I had kids in the house or not.

That said, I haven’t put lights out yet. Gotta get on that this week.

Here’s an interesting approach…

Nothing says Christmas like a Slayer Christmas light show…

or

I wonder what the neighbors thought of this…

I wouldn’t bother with the lights or any decorating but the rest of the family likes it, especially the kids.  But it’s just a few strings on the roofs edge.

My way of hanging Christmas lights:

I just got a text from astronauts on the ISS congratulating me on this year’s Christmas display at Hale Saxer.

The astronomers up on Mauna Kea are bee itching about the “light pollution.”

Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, eat your heart out!

Total opposite of Carl - we have our tree up with multicolored lights and the nativity scene on the mantle, etc, but for exterior decoration we’ve put up holly we found growing near the castle and that’s it for the moment. I keep meaning to order these window suction cup candle holders so we can do the new england-style ‘welcome lights,’ one votive per window pane. Still haven’t gotten around to it yet, though.

We do the electric candles in the windows and the tree but nothing else so far.  The wife would like some lights around the house eventually so one of these years we’ll (I’ll) probably have to do that.  We’ll be keeping it very simple though.

We put up a nice tree Sunday and decorated it Monday night.  It’s beginning to look something like Christmas all around the living room.  I’ll have to get some lights up outside this weekend.

We have a Santa Fe style house with a flat roof so we used to put electric luminarios along the roof edge, but when they finally dry rotted the kids were gone and I never bothered with them again.  Laziness I guess

We go overboard with the tree every year, going out to the farm to cut it ourselves. This year, I’m guessing our tree is 12-14’ tall (I didn’t measure it before putting it in the stand). As far as lights, I put some up every year, but nothing crazy. Plenty of my neighbors take care of that.

“No, it’s not too big. Just a little full.”

Fortunately, my lights are still up from last year, because I’m not gonna have any time to put any up.  I’m working every day and most nights between now and Christmas.  I hope to find time to go get a tree on Fri.  We live right in the midst of many Christmas tree farms, so it shouldn’t take too long.  Then I hope my wife has time to decorate it.

Heh, I put that one in for you and me both.

My neighbor really goes to town, and is famous in the area.  As in, when I give directions at any time of the year on how to get to my driveway, I can say turn left after that Christmas light guys house.  It is pretty cool though, I enjoy it, and he is about 600 yards away so I still get black night sky.

I usually only do a single evergreen tree in the yard with white lights, assuming they turn on again when I plug them in.

lights on the tree. maybe around the edge of the picture window, depending on how much time/effort my wife wants to put into it. nativity somehwere in the house. lots of greens over all the doors and anywhere else she can find a place to stick them.

For those who haven’t seen this light show.

I like that and the music as well, however I’m glad they’re not my neighbors.
