I put this in Yeast/Fermentation because that’s when you add it.
I’ve been reading up on issues regarding clear beer making. I saw YouTube video of a guy doing a side by side test. I read a few older posts on here. Some of them said they’d post their results, but never did.
If you use or have used clarity ferm can you chime in on your results?
I brewed a batch with this after getting a freebee at NHC. I brewed 10 gallons and pitched the clarex in 5 gallons along with a packet of us-05. The other half got a mixed up concoction of Belgian yeasts and brett. I did not notice a huge difference in clarity. If anything the clarex half was less clear after a couple weeks in the keg.
That being said, I did it for the supposed gluten reduction properties more than the clarity so I was not disappointed.
My guess is no one has used it. That or I stepped in dog poo and don’t know it. Either way, I’ll have to give it a whirl and become the resident CF guy.
WL is pretty clear (pun) that it has two functions. 1. Eliminate chill haze 2. Drop gluten levels to legally “gluten free” . So it might not make beer clearer per se, unless you have a chill haze issue
I used to use it in quite a few beers (15-20). I didn’t notice much of am increase in clarity, but I did notice a positive reaction to my allergy to beer (and gluten). I felt like it stripped out too much flavor/aroma to make it worthwhile.
In case anyone is wondering, I am allergic to beer in the sense that 3+ full beers do not allow me to breathe out of my nose, like a stuffed up feeling. I liked that I could drink more beer without having any nose problems, but there was just something missing from the beers using Clarity Ferm.
