Club Competition Fail

Last night my club had a draft for ingredients for a competition.

I mistakenly selected wheat malt as my only base malt. I thought I could add another in a later round. Nope.

So, I am brewing a 95% wheat / 5% caramel 40 with Mosaic and Crystal hops. Yeast Bry-97.

I am secretly kind of excited to see what comes of this.

I picked up some rice hulls today. Would I be crazy to brew this in the Picobrew Z1? I am thinking the GF may be a safer bet.

Maybe BIAB if that is available.

I’m not qualified to address the GF/Z question, but I take exception to the word “fail” in your topic.  I bet “serendipity” is more the correct word.  If not for total accidents, real discovery would rarely occur.  I’m secretly kind of excited to hear the results.

People lost their minds when 3 Floyd’s  Gumballhead was the it thing back in the day. It is a wheat driven hoppy beer, and pretty  darn tasty, so you might have reason to have high expectations.

BIAB is a 3rd option.

Well. Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.  Break a leg!

Does the beer have to end up within a style guideline?  Are you limited on max/min oz of each hop you must use?

We will see what comes of this…

Thought of a name: “Peetie Wheatstraw”

He was a great Blues Musician, the Devil’s Son-in-Law and the High Sheriff from Hell.  Amazon.com

Did he go down to Georgia?

I think it would work in the Z.  I think…

I need an excuse to use the Grainfather. I may even put a BIAB bag in the malt pipe though I don’t think I will need it.

Lagunitas’ Little Sumpin is more than 50% wheat, IIRC. They’re macro now, but they weren’t when I started drinkin’ Sumpin, and macro or not, it’s a damn tasty beer.
