A commercial recipe calls for 1500 grams AA of Warrior extract. Warrior ranges from 15.0 – 17.0% AA (Hop Union).
What is the formula to calculate AAU or pounds?
My goal is to determine the weight in pounds.

While I may be wrong, the alpha percentage should be the percentage of the hop weight that is alpha acid resin.
1500g / 0.17 = 8.8 kilograms x 2.20462 = 19.4 pounds
1500g / 0.15 = 10 kilograms x 2.20462 = 22 pounds
I’d cheat that up just a little bit - maybe 5% for pellets or 10% for whole cones to account for the better utilization from the extract.
I found a recipe that called for hop shots and played with the numbers in my software to have the hop shot additions be .1oz = 1ml. Ended up being ~26% AA. I’m sure I would need to adjust for potency from batch to batch.

That makes sense. Did you find this on a hop grower/producer website?
The recipe explicitly calls for 1500 grams AA Warrior Extractand 45 grams AA Amarillo Extract.
That’s the only way I’ve seen it written. Same as for hops, except extracts are typically 30-60% AA. The individual cans are sometimes labeled with total grams alpha acid.
Edit: So you want the mass of hop extract needed? You’d need to know the AA% for the individual batch of extract. Same math as with hops: 1500 g / %AA = mass of extract
a10t2 - unfortunately, I do not know the AA% and have not been able to find Warrior Extract via the internet. I’ll just have to approximate, or perhaps call Yakima or others.
No, it is an American Society of Brewing Chemists standard. Alpha and beta acids are weight by weight (w/w) measurements.
AA_weight / hop_weight = AA_percentage
hop_weight * AA_percentage = AA_weight
AA_weight / AA_percentage = hop_weight
Essential oil (hop flavor and aromatic compounds) is a volume by weight (v/w) measurement. Essential oil profiles can be stated in v/w or percentage terms. A rating of 1.2ml means that the cultivar yields 1.2 milliliters of oil per 100 grams of hops. A rating of 1.2% also means that the cultivar yields 1.2 milliliters of oil per 100 grams of hops.
