dead mouse in my carboy

just started brewing after 10 years pulled out my basic kit to find  what I had and to my suprise found a dead mouse in my carboy if I clean it with a brush and soak it in bleach will I be ok?

Absolutely.

Yeah, if you can get past the ick factor

No worries… Just give it a thorough cleaning and sanitizing.

You’ll have to dedicate the 1st brew to that poor critter… how bout ‘mousetrap ale’?

Dead Rodent Red
Deceased Mouse Mild
Carcass Cream Ale
Not Your Disney Mouse Milk Stout
The possibilities are endless.

No problem at all. I had this happen once; the real mystery was how it got in (the carboy wasn’t in a box or anything, so it would have to have leapt from the wall or fallen from the ceiling - I don’t think mice can scale vertical glass).

then again, you might want to be adventerous, take a walk on the wild side. just leave that poor mousie in place and ferment away. sort of a cock ale variant. then you could really make use of Jeff’s naming suggestions.

Gives now meaning to the moussy head description of Belgian Dark Strong Ale
Here’s Rat in Your Eye
Mousebock, a hairier version of Eisbock
Squeaky Clean Carboy California Common

hmmmm…Mouse Head Mild

that’s got an English ring to it. bet they’d drink lots of that down at the local pub.

Forget Moose Drool, you’ve got Mouse Drool!

Did I read somewhere that chickens were put in some kind of brew or was I just having a nightmare? I guess a rat could be used for the same purpose.

you can try it but i dont think that any amount of cleaning/brushing/sanitizing will bring him back now.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice, have you read the proper grammar thread?

Mouse Revival Mild
Resuscitation Pale Ale
Resurrection IPA
Mouse-Be-Gone Belgian Brown

I would not drink it in your house
I would not drink cuz the dead mouse
I do not like dead mouse haus ale
It makes me hurl in your ale pail

;D

  • Just feelin’ Suessy

Don’t care who you are, that’s funny!
Critter done!

If I wanted to Dry Mouse my pale ale, how many dead mice would you suggest?

Had one die in my better bottle once.  Hot PBW soak, rinse, another hot PBW soak and rinse over several days.  All better after that.

OK, one more and then I’m done:
Late Mouse West Coast IPA

That’s what someone said before, it’s called Cock Ale, and the recipe involves mashing up a whole chicken and steeping it in your beer for a day or so at the end of the ferment. I feel like you’d need a slew of dead mice for this purpose, and for that reason I’d be hesitant to try “Mouse Drool Ale.”
