Ok, so for those of you not in LA or Florida, one of the hosts on KCRW (the big NPR affliate / alternative music station), decided at the age of 61 to revisit a record swimming attempt that eluded her back in the 70’s.
She’s swimming for 60 hours to go 103 miles from Havana to Key West. She still holds the record for open ocean swimming -102 miles from Bimini to Florida. (set in 1979)
All I can say is 60 hours? 60? There’s nothing in this world I could do for 60 hours straight. Nothing. Not even sitting - let alone swimming through shark infested waters.
LA = Lower Alabama? aka western Florida panhandle.
I remember when she did the Bahamas - Florida swim. Very impressive. I’ve made that crossing in a boat many times. Can’t imagine swimming it. Swimming across the Florida Straits is even gutsier (crazier?). I’ve been down there in a boat too. Shark infested is not a romantic description. It is accurate.
Oh, I completely missed that.
For some reason I thought she started in Key West and when I looked at your tracking map early this morning, there she was in Havana. I guess more coffee before posting is a good idea.
