> I’m looking to brew one of my favorite beers. The ingredients for hops is, Mosaic, Simcoe, Citra. However it also has _Mosaic Cryo, Simcoe Cryo, Citra Cryo._ I’m not having any luck finding the Cryo hops. I’m not sure what to do. I’m hoping someone can help me out on explain the differences?

i think of cryo hops as being concentrated hop powder. the yakima chief ones i get have double the alpha acid% and claim to have double the flavour.

TBH i got very powerful and good flavours out of using them and would again. more than just concentrated the process is claimed to reduce harsh bitter components in the body of the hop too

Cryo hops are made by freezing hop cones, shattering them, then removing the removing the vegetal matter, leaving almost pure lupulin. They are great for late additions and dry hopping. They are incredibly high alpha, but using them for anything other than late additions is wasting them, considering their price.

Thanks for the answer. I’m glad you liked using them. I will too.

You’re very welcome. I was at Yakima Chief to see some of the first batches of cryo made on the prototype equipment.

I love cryoMosic for dry hopping. To reiterate cryo hops are for flavor NOT for bittering.

They can be used for bittering, but it’s a waste of money.

Cryo hops are great for the uses noted by others but aren’t necessarily required for a recipe. You can substitute regular pellets in the recipe and perhaps increase the amount by 1.5 to 2 times. My guess is that you are a new brewer? Just do a direct substitution and make some tasty beer. Cryo hops can come next time you brew.

You can do that, but itcwont be the same. Without the vegetation, cryomhops are different than T90 or cones in some ways.

For dryhopping cryo gives a BIG aroma and flavor contribution. They do tend to break apart more than conventional pellets. I really enjoy using them
