DIY Glycol Chiller Rust

Hi everyone,

I made a DIY glycol chiller out of a old cooler and a A/C unit a few years back.  The condenser on the AC unit is rusting and now my glycol liquid is a nasty orange.  Is there anything I can do to prevent the rust from getting worse?  Do I just make a fresh batch of glycol solution and run it till it dies?

Thanks

What kind of water are you using to dilute the glycol?  If it has chlorine in it that could be the problem.

I’m pretty sure I used distilled water a few years ago when I filled it up.  I may have topped it off with a bit of tap water though at some point which would have a had a little chlorine.

I would use distilled water or RO water to dilute the glycol.  That way you could be sure there was nothing in the water that could corrode your system.

My GF chiller specifically recommends distilled.
