Double batch blunder

I was brewing two batches with some friends on Saturday and accidentaly added the wrong hops to the wrong pot… It was first addition. I was brewing a Dunkelweisen and a Amber and I added the 5 AAU of Centenial pellets that was set aside for the Amber to the Dunkelweisen pot. :-[ The Dunkelweisen was supposed to get 4 AAU’s of Hallertau. I only had 1.5 AAU of Centenial left so I used the Hallertau to get up to 5AAU and added the mix to the Amber. I know They will both drink alright since is only bittering hops but how off would you guys expect them to be?? Maybe the Dunkelweisen will be more affected than the Amber?

I don’t see any major deal breakers here - neither is a big bittering addition.  A citrusy hop like Centennial would normally be out of place in a weizen-type beer, but since this was only a boiling addition most or all of the citrus character should’ve been boiled off. And I’ve used Mt Hood (a Hallertau offshoot) many times in amber. No worries !

Thanks. I feel better now. I realize now that two partial mash batches at once with non brew savvy friends asking questions is a bit much for a rookie brewer. Maybe a couple batches down the road but it was too much on Saturday.

Man, I screw up all the time when people are hanging out and “helping.”

Yep, especially when drinking.

+2 here.  I finally broke down and changed my policy years ago - come on over and help drink good beer after it’s ready, just don’t ‘help’ make it.  Magically, the sloppiness went away. Go figure.

Brew naked, it limits the audience to the truly dedicated

Wrong thread jim.

LMAO. Good stuff.

Oh, duh.

Remember, it’s not a mistake, it’s an unplanned innovation…

Lol!

I like that. And maybe it will be, I Will let you know in 6-8 weeks…
Waiting around is not my favorite part of this hobby, but it sure does pay off.

I brewed a Cal Common and a alt a couple weeks ago. I fired up the kettle for a brew this weekend and discovered one of my hop cups sitting on the shelf with one of my additions from the previous brew day. For the life of me I can’t remember not adding them and to which batch i didn’t add them to. I don’t even know how I got distracted so badly I forgot an addition.  I wasn’t even drinking.

Probably my Common. There is irony being that I had just adjusted the Common recipe to accommodate the continuous “not enough hops” comments from judges. Damn.

Well, maybe you always forget and hence the not enough comments. So now it will be just right because you only forgot the extra hops.

Perhaps…
