Hi
I have an american barley wine fermenting (WLP 099). I dry hopped with pellets a few days ago (10 days into primary fermentation). How long could \ should I leave it on the yeast before I need to start worrying about the decomposition of the hop pellet vegetable matter? Could I just rack to another carboy with some fresh, krausening yeast to ensure full fermentation \ aging without worrying about the hop gunk rotting?
cheers
steve
I’d leave it on the yeast until you are sure you are at a solid FG for a few days. I’ve had beers sit on dry hops for 2-3 weeks (not intentionally, but life happens), and they’ve been fine. I’d be hesitant to leave it in primary for several months, but have no direct experience with o say that it is definitely a bad idea.
