East vs. West

My deerpark pale ale. Bry-97 on the left and new England on the right. Fun experiment so far.

Cool.  I hope they’re both equally [but differently] awesome!  Can’t wait for the tastings review.

Crashing for Saturdays kegging

It may be none of my business, but you have a serious frost issue in your refrigerator.  As such, the frost actually acts as an insulator and hence does not allow the refrigerant to dissipate temperature as it was intended.  This condition is not very favorable or friendly to the compressor.  Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it. I was supposed unplug it last week but the kids reperposed it for sip boxes. Well they reclaimed it for sip boxes. It was theirs before I claimed it for beer. So I’ll blame the lack of maintenance on them.

Definitely different. Weat coast finished at 1.012 and the new enegland finished at 1.020. West coast has a drier finish with pronounced citrus hop character including the zest and pith. The new England was a bit maltier with a residual sweetness and more of a tropical hop flavor like guava and mango.

Interesting that the yeast had that much effect on the hop expression.

It is as they say: brewers make wort; yeast make beer.

that is a big chunk of ice in there.

Is it me or is the New England more clear?

The new England was much clearer. It dropped a lot more during secondary and cold crash. The yeast layer was twice as thick as the west coast. I have the same recipe fermenting with verdant ipa yeast as we speak.
