Will be on Edinburgh for the first week of September. First trip there so I’m looking for some food and drink recommendations.
On my list already are the Guilford Arms, Oxford Bar, and the Bow Bar.

Those all look good, but I haven’t been to them. A recommendation I can make is that there are plenty of interesting alleys around town that are worth exploring. The one restaurant that we found interesting (Under the Stairs) has apparently closed, so no recommendations there.
Glasgow is another place worth visiting. The Necropolis is on a hill overlooking the city and is worth a visit. There is a very nice district over by the Kelvingrove museum with decent restaurants and pubs. Ben Nevis, Ox and Finch, and Finnieston are worth visits. That museum is nice too and has a mint-condition, late model Spitfire hanging from the ceiling.

I’ll be there for two days middle of September
It’s a jumping off point for traveling to other parts of the UK. Unfortunately won’t have an opportunity to dive super deep in Scotland this trip to visit distilleries.
Planning to hit the scotch malt whiskey society kaleidoscope bar that’s open to non members.

I would also recommend The Kenilworth and the Cafe Royal (very close to Guilford). Kenilworth is a bit further but a great walk. I would also recommend visiting The Dome. It is not necessarily a great beer place, but the inside of the building is pretty impressive. Stop in the bar and have one there just to see it. We stayed near the Oxford, and I dropped in one afternoon for a bit. A neighborhood kind of place, the interior is not as interesting as the others. If you go to the Royal be sure to step to the back room and check out the stained glass panels.

We’re staying not far from the Oxford. The reason I want to stop in there is it’s the home bar for John Rebus, a fictional detective in Edinburgh. There are many Rebus novels, and now he has aged into retirement, but still solves crimes. The author for those novels is Sir Ian Rankin, who also drinks in the Oxford when in Edinburgh.

It is a neat neighborhood. If you are near Oxford you are not far from Kenilworth. Personally enjoyed good food at both Kenilworth and Guilford (twice each). Have fun, lots to see and do there.

Boy… way back in 2015, but I really enjoyed the Cumberland Bar and Barony Bar. First beer I had was a Timothy Taylor Landlord on hand pull at the Cumberland Bar, and it was amazing. I also remember the ciders there being served in large 22 oz glasses.
