The iSpindel is an amazing DIY floating hydrometer and right now it is easier than ever to make your own. With a small list of parts, some light soldering, and a little elbow grease you could build your own device that can tell you your gravity in near realtime. Dave talked about the history of iSpindel and how you can build one yourself. Pretty cool stuff!
I built one. Building it was not an issue. Configuring it to work with the Mac operating system was really hard for me. I had it working once had to redo it. I just gave up.
Flashing the wemos was the issue. All of the methods are geared to Windows. I spent 5 hours or more trying to flash and succeeded after some remote help from a really nice guy in Texas. When I had to flash it again I could bear going through that process again. It’s too bad. In many ways it seemed better than the Tilt.
I am currently running Linux and I personally have not built one. That being said it should be hard I think just getting the right tool to flash it should be all.
