Anyone have recommendations for good ways to filter hop and grain particles out of the wort after the boil prior to transfer to the primary fermenter? I have just been draining off the liquid so far which has left a lot of remaining sediment.
A large kitchen strainer will work, especially if you are going into a bucket.
Just whirlpool and let the kettle settle for 10 minutes. no need straining or filtering. Just no need at all! A little sediment will not affect the flavor.
I put a sanitized paint strainer bag inside my fermenter and drain the kettle into the fermenter. Then pull the strainer out and let it drain a bit into the fermenter. Works well. You can get the strainer bags cheap at home depot or Lowes. They can be reused too.
+1. Works well.
