Finnegans Blonde

So I know it’s kind of a Midwest thing but I tried finnegans blonde recently and thought it was awesome and now I want to clone it. Does anyone have any recipe ideas or thought?

If you go to the brewing company’s website they might have information on their beers.  For example Sierra Nevada’s website will tell you the malts and the hops used.  That’s a good starting point for any clone in my opinion.

I looked at it and it’s very vague

TASTE: Light-Bodied ale, slight floral/fruity aroma, crisp clean finish

INGREDIENTS: Made from 4 pure ingredients: water, yeast, hops and malted barley

ALCOHOL: 4.6% by Volume

BITTERNESS: 22

That’s what’s pisted

I would have guessed listed

Lookin more into it. It is only in the Midwest and was released 3 weeks ago there wouldn’t be much info out there about it.

What would give me a slight floral/fruity aroma for hops

What would be a good liquid yeast?

I plan on using 100% Pilsen malt

Try emailing the company to compliment them on their beer. Let them know you’re a homebrewer and you’d like to try to make the beer. See if they’ll give you a hint or two. I did this with Lakefront and they emailed me their Pumpkin Lager recipe.  I had to scale it down to 5 gallons, but I was surprised with the amount of detail they provided me.

I would second Big Chicken.  Ask them.  I just got off the phone with a friend who ran across a nice sweet stout from Empyrean in Lincoln. He told the staff that he liked the beer and had a friend who was a homebrewer.  Sounds like they gave him the recipe- we’ll see tomorrow when he stops by.

+2 to the email them thing.

As an answer to your question about the yeast and hops.

Id say mittlefrueh for floral fruity and for a crisp clean finish try WLP001 or WY1056 fermented pretty cool, like 62 maybe? That will certainly give you a very clean/crisp beer.

Rich Chapin, Empyrean’s head brewer, is a great guy and very helpful to homebrewers.  One of the nicest in the business.  Their sweet stout is pretty tasty and one of my favorites of theirs!

I was thinking pils malt to get around 5% abv then 1.5 oz hallertauer at 60 min and .5oz of saaz at 10 min. Wyeast 1056

Would a pound of honey malt have a place in this recipe?

A pound of honey malt in anything is probably gonna be too much.  With honey malt, a little goes a long way.

Would you suggest like a 1/2 pound our less? I have never tried using it. Would it fit?

Amending my question in general what is a good amount of honey malt for a 5 gallon batch. I think I am going to do a honey weisen aswell

If I use honey malt its typically not more than a 1/4  lb.  It adds quite a bit of sweetness in small quantities.

Typically, the brewer of that beer (Summit) uses Harrington 2-row as their base.
I can’t say for sure that this is the case, but it’s a pretty solid guess.

Email the Summit brewery & ask them for a grain bill, based on percentages
