GABF co-babysitting?

Yes it’s early, but as we’re contemplating a move in a few years, we want to go to Denver for this year’s GABF. We also want to enjoy our time with our kids, who will be 3 and 1 1/2 and therefore one is over the 2-year age limit.

Aside: At the GBBF there’s a special floor for people with kids, and you can go with a big group of parents and kids and go on beer runs in groups. Weird that the GABF doesn’t have the same thing.

Are any of you planning on going with kids? I’d like to see about organizing a group baby-sitting, where we could hire 3-4 babysitters to handle the kids for the afternoon, take them to a museum or something while we spend the afternoon & dinner @ the festival. I’d thought about asking the hotel for babysitters, but then it’s kinda lame for the poor kids to have to sit inside all afternoon while mama & papa go sample delicious craft beers…

Don’t they have big glasses at the GBBF?  At the GABF the tasting glass is small and sometimes you need to get in line right away to get your next beer before you even start the first.  Although I tend to avoid those lines

I like you’re idea of babysitter pooling, but we won’t be there. :frowning:

Yeah, I saw that about the size. Wtf with 1 ounce pours? At GBBF the minimum pour is 1/3 pint, the max is a full pint. I dunno how I’m expected to get a feel for the beer with 1 ounce.

1 oz is plenty I think - I often wanted more, but there are thousands of beers to try.  At 1/3 pint each you might have 10-15+ beers per session, with the smaller pour you can try many more.

A 1 oz pour is perfect at GABF.  I’ve even thrown out some of my 1 oz pour after a first sip.  No need to wast time on a terrible beer I don’t like (anyone try the beer last year that had smoked hops in it, yuck).  I seem to remember that there are around 2000 beers you can try at GABF, so to get to even a small percentage of those you need very small samples.  I went with a buddy last year and we shared many of each others’ samples, and over 2 sessions we might have gotten to taste 500 different beers.  I took notes on a lot of these that I liked, and decent notes considering the 1 oz size.  Keep yourself armed with pretzels and water to keep the palate clean and to maintain sobriety.

Is there anyone I can hire to babysit me at GABF?

I’ll do it - I charge airfare, hotel, and tickets to the GABF.

Who brings/pays for the handcuffs?  ;D

Woah!

Normally you have to pay extra for that.

I meant so he doesn’t run away on you.

Now if I said “Fuzzy Handcuffs”… ;D

It’s more important to make sure he wears his hat.  You can spot that from a long way away.

I still have nightmares about that hat…

Sean,

I was talking about your brewery to my wife, and she was trying to place you. I called you “hat guy” and she immediately remembered. She also remembered your slurred french…  :o

Well, I guess the hat’s officially coming back. ;D

Sorry to derail your thread, Phil…
