Gap setting for 3 roller mill

Hi All,

I’m considering banging out a three roller mill (modeled after the CrankandStein or Monster Brewing products) as a fun little project in the next couple of months.  One of the design features found on these commercially available mills is an adjustment to change the gap setting of the third roller, and I’m wondering if this is actually necessary.

Can anyone who has a three roller mill comment on how often they actually change the gap setting?  Can you just set the gap for the bottom roller at about 0.035" (thirty-five thousandths) and forget it?  If it matters, I’m not planning on conditioning the malt at this time.

Thanks bunches!
