Proper pronunciation of German Helles? As it appears “Helles”? (in other words “Helles” is pronunced as the place with “es” we don’t want to go. However, I do admit to drinking adjunct beers, commercial, mass produced beers in my life. Please forgive me…)
Sounds like “hel-liss” to me.
OK. Thanks. Visited a local Sweetwater for dinner and drinks on Saturday evening. Had their “New Brew Lager” which was billed as a California Common Lager. NO! IT WAS NOT! To me was more as a German Helles. Just wanted to be sure I pronunced the word correctly when the manager came over to me as said “I understand you didn’t like the beer.”.
Hell means light in German. Helles is because it is used with Bier, which is neutral. Das Bier.
