God Speed Neil Armstrong

My generation’s hero.

May he RIP.  An American hero for sure.

Stayed up for the landing with the rest of my family. One of those events burned into memory. A brave man indeed.

Raised a toast to him last night with close friends. RIP.

I spent the weekend at an Order of the Arrow conclave.  I had some time to think about Scouting and Scouts who have been successful in their lives.  My thoughts turned to Neil Armstrong, and after 43 years I had a revelation:

I would argue (good naturedly, of course) that when the Apollo 11 lunar module landed on the moon, its designation became Tranquility Base. Therefore, when Commander Armstrong radioed back to Mission Control from the surface of the Moon, “Houston - Tranquility Base here - The Eagle has landed!” he was not refering to the lunar module. He was refering to himself, an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
