"Gritty" Beer

I’ve been stumped on what to brew for a while, but I think I want to brew a beer dedicated to Gritty. For those who don’t know, Gritty is the mascot for the Philladelphia Flyers. I’m not a fan of the team, but there’s something amazing about that goof.

Any thoughts on a recipe or style suitable for this beautiful monster? I’m a little stumped, but am maybe thinking about a Orange Dreamsicle milkshake IPA. It’ll be thick, and orangey. Open to other ideas though.

Another “Gritty” bear is Gritty McDuffs, in Portland, Maine. If you still are stumped for what to brew, maybe just try one of theirs?

I don’t know…I’m still creeped out by gritty.  However, when he shot the other guy with the T-shirt cannon he had me.  As far as a beer, he seems so American Light Lager!

Maybe brew a contradiction beer. A blonde stout or black NEIPA… it would inspire friends to say, “What the F$&@ is that thing supposed to be?”

He kinda looks like a hairy pumpkin.  How about a pumpkin ale that has an earthy hop note to it?

How about a Yuengling lager clone for the base recipe, but instead of corn as the adjunct, you use a bunch of Tastykakes, Scrapple, Philly-style pretzels and cheesesteaks?

I think gritty might like a super hopped up red ale.
