Does anyone know where to get hold of growlers in Europe. I am aware that the flip top style with the pewter handle are made in Germany, but am completely unable to find them anywhere.
Can someone help?

I am referring to that (rather than the version you thought I meant the other night). That would work, but I really was after the German flip top efforts.
Having looked at some images of what you’re referring to, I can’t say I’ve ever seen one.
Large swing top (Grolsch bottles) yes, large bottles with handles, yes. Combination of the two, no.

At the Midwest Regionals for the National Homebrew Contest at Sun King Brewing in Indianapolis, IN last weekend, I noticed a very nice 1.9L (1/2 gal) growler with a Grolsch style cap. Very nice, but very pricey at $15 for just the growler. I would imagine that you should be able to find growlers from someone in the EU for mail order.
Another option would be to add on a swing-top to the 2litre bottles I linked to. Several companies in mainland Europe sell the metal collars that can be retro-fitted to ‘normal’ bottles, Brouwland certainly do. Whether the diameter of the bottle neck would suit a swing-top I can’t say.
The 2 liter growler is called a “siphon” in Germany.

I know. I want to get one in Europe, and Northern Brewer don’t ship internationally. Plus, it would be rather like sending coals to Newcastle. 
Now we have the correct name for them I’ve found somewhere; http://www.wecomatic.com/xt/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=siphon&x=0&y=0 are based in Germany and will ship to the UK, total cost about £20. Might be worth ordering several as the postage charge is for up to 25kg
I’ve also been put in touch with the producer in Germany and am waiting to see what they come back with.
