That’s friggen hilarious! Can’t believe you got snow already. It was 105* here today. My dad is flying in on Saturday, and we are heading to the mountains for about a week of camping, before I fly back out to Ohio, with him. Really hoping it’s gonna be cooler up there. Should be at least when the sun goes behind the ridge. Oh, and thanks for thinknig of me. I think.
It isn’t “already”, it’s “still”. I can see pockets out my window on the north slopes, starting at about 11,500 ft.
Give him time, he’s new to the Rockies…
What I am impressed with, every snow bank I have encountered in late summer is hard as rock…very little give
let alone enough to allow writing…Still neat though.
A stream of warm liquid facilitates writing in such cases… ;D
I love the scenic views in Montana and Wyoming. We have a ten acre tract in Columbus, MT. Haven’t been there in several years. Hope to build a cabin there someday. Some of the mountain views are spectacular up there.

It really is good stuff. In a couple days, I’m off for about a week to the mountains camping. 8)

I got to foot ski a massive slab this week way up in the headwaters of the Rio Grande.
Good times in the Colorado alpine.

I can only point to the massive hail storm we got
on the CDT which collected 12 inches deep in debris flows on the trail.
Made for some good graupelly ball bearing snowconeish treat.
Yum.

I had a no show on the mushrooms. I got to the patch and there were ppl runnin around
with buckets. But beyond that only found a bug eaten half of one matsutake…and no chanterelle.
Long Long drive for those kind of dismal results…the up side was the scenery…
And of interest the usual 104 f hot springs were WAY up at 113f and you could
barely stand to put your toes in the water. So I did not even get a decent soak

Hella good landscape to wander around in.
I met some shroom hunters once, collecting for restaurants in Aspen.
Not my kind of folks. They slept in their BMW all night in the forest and drained the battery listening to tunes. Ragged, I gave them a pull start. They wondered why I would not tell them where the chantys were I had seen that morning. Come on man.
Hot springs up to 113? Climate change fer shure. :
