Homebrew vs Commercial

A really good discussion on homebrew vs commercial and which is “better”. So as not to dilute the why homebrew topic, we can use this thread to discuss homebrew vs commercial

Of course “better” is very subjective. I am fortunate to live in the Chicago area where you can find a brewery in just about every suburb with some having multiple not including the breweries in Chicago proper. Competition is so stiff, if you don’t brew excellent beer you are done. So finding excellent beer is pretty easy.

Also I have been fortunate to be able to travel around the nation and select countries around the world. All this preface is to say I have had beers that were outstanding and some well not so much.

All that said I can brew far better than a lot I had. As Chumly said I brew what I like. If i want an all Mosaic beer at 1.042 OG I can brew one and not worry about brewing for the masses I serve the way I want I avoid baby aspirin flavors at all cost this as well as other factors is why I say that my homebrew is “better than commercial

I live within walking distance of two breweries, so I’ve got a good selection. Outside of the judging arena taste is personal opinion. It’s my opinion that most of the beers I brew are better than commercial beers and I’m not wrong. Neither is anyone wrong in thinking the majority of home brewed beer they’ve tasted doesn’t stand up to commercial examples.

Our homebrew club met yesterday. There was mostly homebrew, with some commercial beers. There was some discussion about the commercial beer, and it seemed that our homebrews were as good as any of the commercial beer and better than some. We may be biased.
