Hello
I was wondering how long grain lasts after milling.
I have plans to brew several different batches within the next few months, and BCS I’m a apt dweller I do small scale all grain batches 1 to 2.5 gallons. My lhbs he decided to start charging a labor fee for pulling my grain bills. So I was thinking of buying enough base malts and specialty grains to do the batches, and because I don’t have a mill I need him to grind the grains
Can you find a different supplier? I sure would!
For real. I’m wary of a store that doesn’t let you crush your own grain. My favorite LHBS is very “hands off” you crush, weigh and bag your own grains. It’s great.
This is the only guy in my area. Unless I drive 105 miles to st louis
Have you thought about mail order from NB, More Beer or the like?
Briess says 6 months, if properly stored in a cool dry place.
As far as charging, a small brewpub, and a new brewery near me do not have mills. All of their grain comes pre rushed in the bags, and they said that costs them a buck a bag.
What I was thinking of doing is getting enough supplies for 4 or so batches at one time. And store them in my freezer He told me that at 5 gallon batch sizing he won’t charge the labor fee.
Build your grain bill (down to the ounce) here RiteBrew.com - Brewing Supplies at Wholesale Prices
…and have them mill it at no extra charge. Looks like you are ~2 day shipping with either fedex or speedy.
