Ok, so I’m trying to woo a lovely lady. Good news- she likes beer! And she’s also interested in brewing. She’s not really a fan of the hops. Also, she says she’s kind of burnt out on wheats. She’s a fan of brown ales (Ellie’s is her fav) but I want to get her to branch out and try something interesting, without going too crazy. Definitely don’t want to scare her off with something wierd and sour or too oaky and spicy.
I’m thinking something low alcohol (4-5%) easy to drink, refreshing after a workout, etc. Suggestions?
A nice Ordinary or Special…but for heavens sake, don’t call it a “bitter”. Puts n00bs right off. No matter how good it is they can’t get past the bitter moniker. Save that explanation for later.
This is the beer that brought my fiance over to the “dark” side. She now digs brown, ESB, Oktoberfest, and Kolsch.
Bad news is - our local brewpub makes the finest examples of O-fest/Kolsch I’ve ever had. I haven’t made one that measures up yet, but its one HELL of a motivator to perfect the recipes!
I guess if you are going to introduce a girl to brewing this is a good time to examine whether to or not to wear pants. Sorry. I don’t have an answer. It’s a conundrum wrapped in an enigma.
Go with an English Brown Mild…even though it’s brown, it’s a very light, refreshing malty beer. Not saying this is a chick beer, but I did make it for an event, and the ladies and bud lite drinkers alike loved it. If your lady likes brown ales with more malt than hops…this would be perfect for you to introduce her to, as it’s something a little different than her fave, but still fits her tastes…she’ll like it, and you will look like you’re brewing up something for her
Sounds like you are trying to introduce her to more types of “beer” not brewing. If you want to introduce her to “brewing” invite her over on a brew-date and show her how it’s made. Feed her too…
Well, my wife thought the same thing until she got into beer. In any case, I was only pointing out that even if she really, truly doesn’t like hops, a fruit beer isn’t the logical opposite of a hoppy beer.
