But I like them even better now. They obviously support home brewers.
I was super excited when I saw they were coming out with these kits. I’ve never had a bad beer from them. Their Buffalo Sweat stout is one of my favorite beers of any style.
Velvet Rooster and 8 bit are two of my favorite. Plus, being a transplanted Manhattan native, it’s awesome to have something other than the football team to mention to people when they ask where I’m from.
I’m quite fond of their beers too. Halcyon is my favorite wheat beer. Buffalo sweat is an amazingly drinkable canned stout. I’d like to visit their brewery sometime. However, I’m not going all the way to nowhere, Kansas just for that. :
Definitely a good brewery though. All their beers that I’ve had so far are good.
And they support homebrewers. ;D
And they use cans!! ;D ;D
I toured thier brewery. I recommend a designated driver if you ever do. They pass around pitcher after pitcher throughout the entire tour. And it is a free tour.
The owner was a member of the Topeka home brew club before he decides to go into business.
The recipe on the NB site calls for WY1450 - are they using Denny’s yeast in the brewery???
Of course…doesn’t everybody?
From the same website (didn’t see it earlier):
A note on yeast: Tallgrass uses White Labs WLP007 Dry English Ale; with Tallgrass’ blessing, we suggest Wyeast 1450 as the default option so customers (especially mail order customers) can more easily evaluate viability before brewing.
