I picked up a 750 of Samuel Smith IPA at The Dalles, Oregon, BiMart today. I’ve picked that exact same bottle up, from the unrefridgerated ailse shelf, to look at it a couple times over the past couple months. Today it was not faced, covered in dust, and looking sad, so I rescued it. After chilling it for an hour or two I poured it.

Clone Recipe
1.065 OG target mash temp to hit 1.025
75% American 2 row pale malt
25% American crystal 10
25 IBUs from Challenger at 60 min
10 IBUs from Target/EKG blend at 15 min
Thames II at 68f for 5 days, transfer to secondary.
It’s humor… there was not much left of this beer. No hop aroma, just stale UK type esters. Flavor too pretty much. I was not trying to make fun of the beer, but how back in the day we would sample old worn out examples and think that’s how it’s supposed to be.
I had this beer over the Holidays…if you’re ever on the East Coast, I’d suggest trying it again. In-your-face EKG, with a nice maltiness to back it up. These beers have to suffer making the trek to the left coast.
I still prefer their regular IPA though, it’s more malty/balanced.
