Jan/Feb Issue printing error

Got the latest issue- the gadget issue- today.  It has a big printing error: page 13-27 are repeated, then pages 28-60 are completely missing, then pages 61-76 are repeated, then it has pages 77-88.  Strange.

Anyone else get this?
Any plan for AHA to provide the missing pages in a printed form?  Or should I suck it up and read the pdf version of those?

Happy New Year!

Just shot an email to Gary and Jill for comment.

Thanks Denny!  Hopefully this is just an isolated issue.

They’re out of office til 1/4 but I’ll let you know if I hear anything.

I don’t have my copy yet, but I know a bit about printing. Sections of the magazines are printed in sections called signatures. Magazines are made of multiple signatures. The signatures are folded a couple of times to put the pages in order. After folding the signatures are combined, stitched, and trimmed. It’s possible that it was a fluke with your issue when the signatures were combined, but it’s also possible that it could be more wide spread.

Getting ahead of myself (have to check mine when I get home), but if there was a printing issue, maybe they could send an email out to the membership and ask those who want a correct copy to reply to a link and send out a few.  I myself wouldn’t care too much since I can get it online, but I know there are those who collect issues.

What you say about signatures is correct. However, they are usually printed in mutliples of 4, either 8, 12, 16, 32, etc. The pages don’t add up that way. It’s really strange. Maybe it is an abberation. Looking at my copies of Zymurgy, I see that it is perfect bound–that is the signatures get trimmed even on the binding side before they are glued rather than stitched. Yours may have come from early in the run, which is called a make-ready, before the bulk of them were bound. For it to be widespread, someone would have to have fallen asleep during the process.

Doing the math in my head the page numbers came close enough. Still don’t have my copy. I tend to get mine a few days after my fiends. Maybe my postal worker likes to read it.

My issue came in the mail today and appears to be in good numerical order.

If it is it might be worth big money some day.

My copy arrived today and is in good order.

Mine is in order.

Mine is normal.  The person who assembled your copy had a few too many

Got mine today, it’s good to go.

Yeah, printing is not always an exact science. Things happen. Thankfully no lives are lost (aside from the trees) due to printing errors (usually). I’m sure they will be happy to send a replacement issue in the near future.

Yet another reason this is such a great organization…after my email to Gary, I heard back from him even though he’s on vacation.  He said this was the first he’d heard of the issue, but they’ll get it fixed.  He’s back in the office on 1/4, so it will be after that.

Received mine yesterday.  Everything appears to be in order.

I like your thinking!  A great organization would not ask their employees to cancel vacation for something like this.

I’ll bet he gets a new copy by the 10th. Plenty of time to still qualify as a Jan/Feb issue

Chinaski, very sorry to hear of the problem with your copy of the magazine. Please send an email to info@brewersassociation.org and our member services team will send you a new copy when they’re back in the office on Monday. In the meantime, yes, you can view the full issue on the app or on eZymurgy.

So far, we have not heard from any others who have reported the same problem, so we are hoping it was an isolated incident. Nevertheless, we will check in with our printer on Monday.

Thanks for reading Zymurgy!

Wow!  Jill, Denny, Gary, etc.- thanks for the prompt attention to this.  It does say volumes about the quality of the AHA as an organization.

So, let’s start the bidding on this RARE copy of Zymurgy!  Do I hear one bag of Thomas Fawcett Maris Otter to start us off?

Cheers!
