I have been kegging for several years and have found caustic soda to be quite effective. you might want to look up on the web for food grade stuff or check with your local restraunt supply. I use 1/2 tbs per keg and rinse with very hot water several times. Periodically I even take it apart and manually clean the lines. A .17 caliber or .22 caliber gun cleanning brush made of nylon is helpful if you have a clog.To steralize just before kegging, I I follow up with a rinse of one step and flush my hoses as well as rinse everything with it.
Using a professional service is expensive, and ties up your equipment. The only reason I can see it if your kegs are the full 32 or 55 gallon kegs.
Sodium hydroxide is great for cleaning but bad for your skin and especially bad with even the smallest amount in your eyes.
