Lagunitas sells 50% stake to Heineken

“A profound victory for American craft”, according to Tony Magee. I’d heard rumors something was in the offing for them.

I hope it works out for them.

I’d heard that they expect to grow by 50% this year. This must be how.

It is certainly a profound victory for Tony Magee ;D

What does the rest of the World think about these insanely hopped up beers like Lagunitas makes? Is the company too much of a one trick pony. The 5-6 kinds that I’ve had are all pretty abrasive.

Is, say, Duvel in the better position for international expansion with the smaller Boulevard Brewing Company?

Expansion costs money, but that’s a really big stake for expansion. I know Elysian Brewing Company in WA sold out (I think to Coors, not sure) and Redhook Ale Brewery sold 30% of its share to Budweiser to get big nationwide distribution rights.

Most people don’t know that the profit margin on beer is really small. It’s hard to make it in the beer manufacturing without a huge volume of business on a wholesale bases. And, I think we will see more of the same in the future. My source of information is from Sage, a provider of data to accountants, banks etc.

I like Heiny and Laginitas. I also don’t mind GMOs. Good for Tony, I hope them all the success in the world!

Holy verbosity (?) If I was not sitting in the hospital waiting room waiting for a kids cast to be removed, I could never have gotten through that whole diatribe. I like what he had to say, but any other day it would have been TLDR for me

Yeah, he like to talk, or write in this case.

Yeah, that was kind of a manifesto.

And a manifesto that didn’t seem to say much more than he’s excited about the possibilities.
