Line Thickness

Hello all,

New to kegging, and brewing in general, but I happened upon to some fairly good bargains on both kegs and a pretty large chest freezer, so I’ve decided to start converting it into a keezer despite all that.

I’m currently shopping for the parts for the tap setup and was wondering about line thickness.  Specifically how much does the outer diameter of vinyl tubing matter?

I know gas line should be 5/16 ID and beverage line 3/16 ID, but I’ve seen people say the OD of gas line should be 9/16 and the OD of beverage line 7/16. Would it be a bad idea to run gas through 5/16 ID x 7/16 OD? Or say beverage line of 3/16 ID x 5/16 OD?

Appreciate any help, as I said, pretty new to all of this.

Thanks,
A.J.

I would use 1/8” wall for gas, beverage side is less important. The ID of gas isn’t important outside of what will work with your fittings. I used the 1/8” wall for beverage side but switched the the 1/16” wall because it is easier to manage.

Kind of what I was thinking.  Thanks, appreciate the advice!
