Mailing Beers???

I would like to mail a few of my homebrews to a friend in Denver to get his feedback.  I think it’s against better judgement to mail it via Postal Service.  What have you guys done in the past to ship your brews?

Thanks again for the advice!

Cheers

Most people ship via UPS or FedEx. If you just say they are yeast samples (or sometimes they don’t ask) then you should be fine. If you ship via UPS or FedEx, you are breaking their regulations, if you ship by USPS, you are breaking a federal law…

+1 on ups FedEx…never had an issue.just wrap and package well…leaks blow your cover!

Better yet, just register a free account at FedEx or UPS and create your own shipment online.  All you do then is just drop it off and they don’t even ask what’s in it.

Wrap each bottle individually in bubble wrap, then put each in a zip lock bag in case it leaks.

This post has awesome info and pictures about how to package beer for shipping.  There’s a link at the top which brings you to the relevant part, 6. packaging beer.

I like to put it in a ziplock bag and then wrap it in the bubblewrap, but pretty much the same thing either way.

Mostly, but the first way if the bottle breaks the bubble wrap will protect the bag from being punctured.

Good point.

An easy way to do this:
Go to your local liquor store and pick up a case that was used for wine. These boxes have individual slots for each bottle of wine and they are deeper than beer cases. Use the interior slots for your bottles. Pack newspaper into the bottom of each slot and fill the external slots all the way to the top. place each labeled bottle in a bag and slide into alternating slots and then pack more newspaper on top of them. I have done this many times and it works great and you are not spending any money on packaging materials.

AS mentioned it is against the law to use the USPS. I use FedEx, have an online account, print my own label and drop off, I’ve never been asked what is in the box.

GREAT info!!

Thanks again fellas!
