Medal displays

I was a little bored this afternoon and decided to try to sort through a big pile of homebrew medals that was gathering dust on a shelf in my shed, going back to 1996 or so.  I have about 37 pounds of them, mostly from competitions in Florida, but a few from Texas and some from the first and final rounds of the Nationals.
It looks like my peak was in 2006 to 2010 - those are the biggest piles.  Not so much in the past few years, not completely because I haven’t been entering as much as I really believe people are brewing better all the time.

Would you guys mind posting some photos of how you display your medals?

I know, first world problem - how do you display your medals…

Edit to first world problem from third world.  Is that right?

I just have mine on the top of some IKEA bookcases in the Basement.

37 pounds, wow!

Most are in a couple big boxes in some basement cupboards. Go homebrew!

I just hang 'em on nails in the brewery.

37 lb.!

Yeah. Wow. That’s many more lbs than I have.

Yeah, I filled up a bucket and weighed it, to my surprise.
Then I broke the only nice glass one, which was one of only two best of show medals in all those years.

I’m more like 37g.

My wife suggested removing the ribbons and nailing them to a board overlapped like shingles.  That might be pretty impressive looking.

I just have mine on a bookshelf in the office, but I have only just been back into competitions the past couple of years. Had about a 17 year hiatus where I was just brewing for the house. The liter mug and the badge which fell off a ribbon were from the 1995 Dixie Cup. The rest are from the past couple years.

I got a couple of ribbons from the Dixie Cup, too, from back in 96 or so.

This… and this for me as well

This is what I also do, I do not have many but felt I wanted them hung in the brewery (the garage).

If I had 37 lbs of brewing medals I would probably dedicate a nice cabinet to them to display them nicely.

Sew them on the front of a leather jacket.

Reasons:

  1. You could wear it when you walk the dog for extra exercise…and impress joggers.
  2. You could wear it to “the store” hoping to get on the people of “the store” website.
  3. You could wear it when brewing the next big heavy award winning beer.
  4. It could save your life as the flack jacket that also impressed the shooter.
  5. Should I go on….
  1. You could use it when welding deep water oil rigs in the north sea to keep you stable while making repairs 15 fathoms down during 10 ft seas in the winter.
  1. When on vacation at Cabo…you could troll it 10 feet ahead of your lures when fishing for heavies as flasher/fish impresser…

7/  Use them as counterweight in a pulley system to lift heavy brewing gear.

Seems legit.  Never thought of using them as weights.

  1. You could raffle the jacket for charity during the Sadie Hawkins dance which you were hoping to be invited to but you get to attend anyway because you are the vice principle…

Suddenly I’m hearing songs from The Music Man.
