Mixing Commercial and Homebrew Kegs on one system

Hi.  Newb here.  Recently started homebrewing and have a couple of batches under my belt.  Not ready to start kegging yet, but definitely see the appeal.  I’ve been looking at getting a two-tap kegerator system for the home, and would like to have the option to have both a commercial 1/6 keg and a home brew keg on tap.  Is that possible with the CO2?  Does each line have it’s own regulator?

Thanks in advance,
–Sam

You can certainly do it. You only need two regulators if you want different carbonation levels in the beers. Otherwise just get a two-way manifold or a splitter for the gas line.

I have four tap system that interchanges homebrew (corny) with commercial (sanke) kegs. If you look at some place like Foxx Beverage equipment they have all the equipment you need. In my case, I had everything geared up so that all the line fit the standard QDC on corny kegs. There is an adapter you can but that allows you use the same fitting fro sanke kegs.

Great.  Thanks for the quick answers.  I guess I assumed that you need different CO2 levels between the corny and sanke kegs (given the size of the kegs, etc.).  Is that a bad assumption?

Keg size should make no difference in CO2 pressure, only desired carbonation level.

weren’t you wanting a 1/6 bbl sanke keg? that’s the same size as the homebrew corny keg

Didn’t realize that.  For some reason, thought the corny keg was smaller.

In any event, seems like this is an easily addressed issue and my concern was unfounded.  Thanks for all the info.

Just put flare fittings on the gas and liquid lines, and changing out kegs is dead simple. All you need for the commercial kegs is a 1/4" MFL adapter: Stainless Steel Tail Piece 1/4" MFL Any well-stocked homebrew shop or kegging supplier will have them.

This is good advice.  I put barbs on my sanke fittings and it’s sort of a PITA.

They only get used for big parties, but nonetheless.

If I used them more often, I’d probably change to the flare fittings.
