More Beer buys Blichman/Anvil

I just saw this.

Wow! All I can say is that MoreFlavor has good taste.

Bought some pieces - this reads like a fire sale to me:

has officially acquired selected assets of the Blichmann Engineering and Anvil Brewing brands

Because this transaction was structured as an asset purchase, MoreFlavor, Inc. did not assume prior warranty obligations or liabilities associated with products sold before the transition

I guess this puts them better positioned to compete with Northern Brewer.

Can’t order anything from Blichmann web site anymore. Wonder what happens to my gift card credit on their web site. Guess I’ll find out…

On one hand, MoreBeer has the logistics to fix Blichmann’s recent stock issues and hopefully keep parts available. On the other hand, consolidation historically hurts the consumer in the long run. Losing an independent high-end innovator is definitely a bittersweet milestone for the hobby.

I’m going to withhold judgment until everything is finalized / stabilized… but as someone who just invested in a Blichmann system a couple of years ago, let’s just say I’m concerned.

The system ticks all of the boxes for me, but one of the compelling aspects was the reputation of the company (especially if I needed support with a component like the controller).

Time will tell… and there’s nothing we can do about it anyway. :frowning:

Hopefully MoreBeer acquires – and supports – everything they possibly can. I’m sure a bunch of products are about to disappear as far as new sales, but there are a LOT of existing customers out here.

I have several bits and pieces of Blichmann gear. I hope the special o-rings and gaskets are maintained in stock.

More Beer has their own line of equipment. As acquisitions go, I’m sure there will be some consolidation in the future.

MoreBeer.com is set up but supply chain catching up. I have two accessory equipment items flagged as 'notify me when available. I hope this is good for the Blichmann/Anvil employees. They are fantastic people who are committed to superior customer service! MoreBeer.com folks had better be up to snuff or I will take my (retired with savings) business elsewhere.

I have only had wonderful experiences with both companies. But since my gift certificate resides on the Blichmann website, I don’t think it’s usable. No response from my Blichmann email question. They have always responded to communications before. Hope the employees are all taken care of.

I recommend stocking up when MoreBeer has inventory. Since MoreFlavor (parent co.) plans to drop some products, one might hedge their bets by being as self-sufficient as feasible for the next few years.

MoreBeer would be smart to honor gift certificates for about a year. This would be smart money as goodwill. @rovineye , please post your experience. As @Drewch posted, Northern Brewer is out there (and might be pleased to pilfer customers.)

My dealings with MoreBeer over the years: They have been and are very brewer and consumer friendly.

However, about those wondering about Blichman/Anvil gift cards, based on the MoreBeer FAQ, doesn’t seem good.

"Are previous warranties still covered?

Because this transaction was structured as an asset purchase, MoreFlavor, Inc. did not assume prior warranty obligations or liabilities associated with products sold before the transition. That said, we understand many customers may still need assistance with existing Blichmann and Anvil products. While prior warranties are not being assumed by MoreFlavor, our team will do its best to help customers with available replacement parts, technical support, documentation, and troubleshooting assistance whenever possible."

Note the “… did not assume… liabilities…”. Does this mean gift card(s)? IDK.

I’m with you on this, especially on your support comment-the Blichmann tech support was excellent. I talked with them at HomeBrew Con and got the same story repeated in this thread…waiting to get all the inventory transferred, no tech support employees retained from Blichmann–“we will attempt to support users” and very vague on what products they will support other than the riptide pump. I am dissapointed as a Blichmann owner for over 15 years constantly upgrading with their equipment.
