Mouse in the blowoff bucket

I am brewing an IPA and due to a large amount of foam at the start was using a blow off tube and bucket.  When the foam died down I switched from the tube to a standard air lock.  While dumping the bucket I noticed a mouse had smelled the sugars in the foam crawled up to investigate and fallen in to the bucket.  It has been an exmouse for a number of days.  The scientist in me says proceed - the airlock should keep out any mouse extract.  The twelve year old girl in me says EWWWWW…  :P  Thoughts??

Understand the EEWWWW factor but I think you’ll be fine.  The blow-off tube should be under positive pressure so nothing can leak back into the fermenter.

Haven’t heard a good EWWWWW story since someone dropped a full diaper into a fermenter.  My guess is that everything is fine.  Nothing from the offending mouse should have gone back up into the blowoff.

That’s funny!  I don’t think it would hurt a thing with the blow off tube in use.  I would even go so far as to name the beer, Mouse Lives Matter IPA.

I think you have finally invented a better mouse trap. I think I will fill a bucket with blow-off and see if I can get that pesky rodent

Just curious, did you have any starsan, cheap vodka etc. in your blow-off bucket?

Imagine your last drink being cheap vodka…

I hear if you bring the mouse to the Elsinore Brewery you can get free beer!  ;D

Great allusion to a great movie, Strange Brew with Bob and Doug McKenzie.

No starsan or vodka in the blow off bucket.  I ended up dumping it.  :-[  Just didn’t want to think about that dead mouse floating in the bucket every time I drank one.

Any big city morgue will have several drawers filled with homeless alcoholics whose last drink was cheap vodka.  :frowning:

And I even bet one of their names is “Mouse”.
