I am liking it a lot myself. Don’t like the addict part but the computer work is fun and that crazy guy who did not get the CTO position adds some great flavor as well
I have not seen it, and reading a description, I’m not sure if I want to. I have a hard time suspending disbelief on the average show when they mangle details on something like that when a minor part of the show. I shudder to think what a show devoted to it might be able to screw up. But then again, I do networking for a living and am going to Black Hat in a couple days. lol
I have no idea on this show (since as I said, I’ve never seen it). I’m talking about general shows where the ‘hacker’ on the team cracks the NSA in 30 seconds by typing random keys on their keyboard. Or movies like Hackers with their futuristic color GUIs when, even today, the average system designed to pentest or conduct security audits is more CLI based. I mean I understand that being realistic is not good TV/Cinema (nobody wants to watch me input an IP range into Nessus and then walk away for a few hours, or import a hash list into LCP and let it crunch for 3 days), but sometimes they get so many details wrong that it’s like they didn’t even have a consultant.
Precisely why porn is so successful. If they hired a consultant from their fan base to keep it real, the whole industry would collapse because every show would be the same.
I think there might be other reasons for that one.

Why would they hire a consultant from their fan base? I’m thinking more along the lines of Big Bang Theory where they hire a consultant to keep at least the broader details of their science true.
My favorite is how dark crime labs are on shows like CSI. Second favorite is how many people Jack Bauer can kill in 24 hours. Realistic makes for bad TV.
What kills me is that no one ever turns on the lights in any crime drama ever. My wife and I are constantly screaming at Criminal Minds or CSI: “Turn the damn lights on! I can see the switch right there!”
Well, every “show” would last about a minute and a half followed by 7 hours of snoring…
My favorite tv move is every cop who holds his/her pistol with their arms stiffly extended way out to one side or the other, like its a venomous snake trying to bite them, or its been dipped in radioactive waste and might explode at any moment. Dude, go wait in the car. You’re freaking me out.
Replace ‘no one’ with ‘the general public’ or ‘people outside the industry being dealt with’ that would probably be more accurate. Shows are always going to rub some segment of the population the wrong way when they botch the details on a subject, whether it’s the local accents, the food, the zoom in and enhance, or whatever. Sometimes, it’s a minor nit like seeing Pacific Bell payphones in what’s supposed to be a DC airport, but other times, it can be more cringe worthy (like the accents of any supposedly New Orleans based show ever).
